FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 8, 2008

Red Rock Lanes To Host Two Denny's PBA Tour Events

PBA Exempt Doubles Classic, H&R Block Tournament of Champions take place same week

SEATTLE (January 8, 2008) — The 13th and 14th stops on the 2007-08 Denny's Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour — the 2008 PBA Exempt Doubles Classic and the 2008 H&R Block Tournament of Champions — will take place at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas, Nev., Sun. Jan. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 27. The live ESPN-televised finals of the H&R Block Tournament of Champions will take place on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m. PT with the finals of the doubles event taking place immediately following and airing the next week on ESPN.

Bowling's biggest names will be on-hand for both events, with several PBA legends and Hall of Famers also taking part in the Tournament of Champions. The Denny's PBA Tour's all-time titles leader, Walter Ray Williams Jr., will be competing in both events, as will 2006-07 PBA Player of the Year Doug Kent. Joining them will be the Tour’s brightest young stars — Tommy Jones, Wes Malott and Sean Rash — plus veteran standouts Norm Duke and Pete Weber. Among the list of PBA Hall of Famers taking part in the Tournament of Champions are David Ozio, Johnny Petraglia and Mark Roth.

The week in Vegas features the first PBA doubles event since 2001 and the first Major event in Las Vegas since 1978. Las Vegas has hosted more Denny's PBA Tour events than any other city (72) and has hosted 26 doubles events, but has not hosted a Major since PBA Hall of Famer Mike Aulby won the 1978 PBA National Championship.

Speaking of Hall of Famers, several PBA legends will be competing in the H&R Block Tournament of Champions which this year features an expanded format. In past years, only the 32 most recent Denny’s PBA Tour champions, plus PBA Regional Tour and Senior Tour Major champions were eligible. This year, 52 bowlers will participate including past PBA Tournament of Champions winners and PBA Hall of Famers, meaning such names as Ozio, Petraglia and Roth are eligible.

On hand to defend his Tournament of Champions crown will be 2005-06 PBA Player of the Year Tommy Jones. Last season, Jones captured his second career Major and his 10th career Denny's PBA Tour title, setting a PBA record for shortest time between first and 10th titles along the way.

Jason Couch, who won the last event held in Las Vegas – the 2007 Motel 6 Classic – will also be competing. Couch has not bowled during the 2007-08 season as he has deferred his exemption due to a knee injury, but he will compete in the Tournament of Champions.

Many of the Tour's biggest stars have won titles in Vegas including current exempt bowlers and PBA Hall of Famers Tom Baker, Parker Bohn III, Pete Weber and Walter Ray Williams Jr.

The PBA Exempt Doubles Classic gets underway Sunday, Jan. 20 with the Denny's PBA Tour Qualifying Round followed by the Round of 64 on Monday. The top 32 will advance to round robin match play on Tuesday where bowlers will be paired up for the doubles competition. The top four teams advance to Sunday’s stepladder finals.

The H&R Block Tournament of Champions gets underway Thursday with all 52 bowlers rolling 14 games of qualifying. The top 32 advance to round robin match play on Friday with the top four advancing to Sunday’s live ESPN-televised championship round.

Saturday is a day for the fans with PBA Pro-Ams and Fan Day. The championship rounds for both the doubles event and Tournament of Champions take place on Sunday with the T of C airing live and the doubles event airing the following Sunday.

Tickets for Sunday's ESPN-televised finals at Red Rock Lanes range from $19-$59. To purchase tickets for the PBA Exempt Doubles Classic and H&R Block Tournament of Champions, fans should call Red Rock Lanes at 702-797-7467 or log-on to pba.com to purchase online.
